We’ve got the bottom slice, peanut butter, and jelly, but we stopped before the job was finished. \n\nSo many dreams go unfulfilled because people leave them half done. They start projects and then they abandon them, leaving the world filled with half-written songs, half-written books, half-painted rooms, half-finished furniture, and so on. \n\nPull out some bread and finish the sandwiches. \n\nWhen God does something, he finishes it. He sees his work through to the end. And the Bible tells us that Jesus is working in us; that He is working in our lives and through our experiences, to help us become mature and complete! Why did you leave that project unfinished? Were you missing some pieces? Did you get discouraged because you couldn’t find the right piece? Did Mom and Dad tell you it was time for bed, and you just forgot to finish what you started? What caused you to walk away from that project and without finishing it? \n\nIf you ever left something unfinished, for example, a LEGO build, don’t feel bad. It’s not the end of the world. LEGO bricks were made to be built, torn down, and rebuilt. Despite what some collectors (and adults) may tell you, they were never meant to be permanent structures. \n\nThere are other, more important things in this life that we need to see through to the end, though. Things like homework, your dinner, or keeping promises. History is full of plans and projects that could have been great, but for some reason they were abandoned. There are unfinished songs, books, works of art, experiments, and even huge building projects that have gone unfinished. For example, about 100 years ago, they started building a subway system underneath the city of Cincinnati. They made extensive plans, dug massive tunnels, put up huge steel reinforcements, poured tons of cement, and then one day, they just quit. To this day, there are still over two miles of unfinished subway underneath the city. \n\nBut God has done far greater things than subways, and he has always finished what he started. Let’s name some incredible things that God has done. Can you think of any? (Allow some answers)\n\n**READ GENESIS 6:9-7:5, 7:12, & 7:24**\n\nMAIN POINT\n\nWhat would have happened if the story stopped right there? What if the story went like this? Noah obeyed God, the rain fell, the earth flooded… The end. Where would that have left Noah, his family and all the animals?\n\nBut Noah’s story doesn’t stop there. Let’s read on…\n\n**READ GENESIS 8:1 & 15-17**\n\nDRIVE IT HOME\n\nNoah’s story didn’t end until God finished what he started. God remembered Noah, and didn’t leave him floating around in a giant boat with a bunch of stinky animals. God brought Noah, his family, and all the animals back to safe, dry ground. Because that is what God is like. He is faithful, and he finishes what he starts.\n\nAnd here’s something really awesome! God invites people like us to join him in his work. He did this time after time, throughout the whole Bible, and he still does it today. What if God wanted to save Noah and his family without Noah’s help? Could God have just made the ark himself, gathered the animals into it, and zapped Noah and his family into the ark when the rain started? Of course he could have! God can do whatever he wants! But when God noticed that Noah was righteous, he decided to partner with Noah to do something great. And let’s notice how Noah responded. When God told Noah what to do, how did Noah react?\n\n**READ GENESIS 6:7 AGAIN**\n\nNoah did everything that God told him to do. Everything! Start to finish. Noah must have really trusted God! And he could trust God, because God is faithful.\n\nWe are so blessed to have a Creator God who has gifted us with different talents and abilities, and who wants to partner with us to do amazing things. So if God calls on us to join his work by befriending the friendless, sharing our faith in Jesus, inviting someone to church, praying for someone every day, serving another person, or showing kindness to our enemies, can we see those things through to the end?\n\nAnd once we’ve started, will God just leave us “floating” around to figure things out for ourselves? No. Because God finishes what he starts. God promised to save Noah and he did. God promised to send a Savior and he sent Jesus. Jesus promised to one day return and he will. God always finishes what he starts.\n\nPhilippians 1:6 says, “He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” That means that Jesus is with us, and working through us to complete great things.\n\n**LARGE GROUP MEMORY VERSE ACTIVITY:** \n\nWrite each word of the verse on a poster board. Bring enough kids on stage so each kid can hold one of the words. Then have the kids unscramble the words and put them in order on stage so the audience can read it. \n\n“For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything.” -Hebrews 3:4 (NIV)\n\n**CLOSE WITH A SIMPLE PRAYER**\n\nDear God, \n\nThank you for calling on us to partner with you, and for letting us in on the awesome things that you do. Please help us to always trust you to stay with us to the end, because you always start what you finish.\n\nIn Jesus’ name, \n\nAmen"
