See which team can assemble their box the fastest.**\n\n## While the instructions are simple, these boxes can be tricky, and even frustrating, if you have never assembled one before. After the activity, ask…\n\n- Who likes following directions to assemble things?\n- Do you think the directions on our boxes were good?\n- What could have made those directions better?\n- What would you rather follow? Complicated instructions? Or clear, simple ones?\n\n\n\nWhen Jesus showed up, the religious leaders had 613 laws from the Old Testament that they had to follow. But when people asked Jesus about his directions, he kept going back to just two; (1) Love God, and (2) Love people. Jesus said that this summed up all the other instructions. In other words, if we love God, and love people, then just about all those other rules fall into place. And that makes sense. The Old Testament had laws like, “don’t steal things,” “don’t lie,” don’t worship idols, and “don’t kill people.”\n\nBut let me ask you something. If you really love your grandma, are you going to steal from her house? And if you really love your brother or sister, and you going to tell lies about them? And if you really love God, are you going to make a clay statue and worship it? And if you really love your best friend, will your mom or dad have to remind you not to kill them?\n\nJesus taught us to love God and to love people. And everything else that he taught, and that the Old Testament taught before him, falls into one of those two categories; loving God, and loving people.\n\nJesus gave us really simple instructions to follow, didn’t he? Now, loving people isn’t always easy. Sometimes people can be hard to love. But the idea of loving others is clear and simple for us to understand."

How many fans of LEGO bricks or Mega\n\nBlocks do we have here this morning? \n\nIf you’re a building block fan, you’re in luck, because for the next four weeks, we’re going to be talking all about your favorite thing!\n\nLEGO bricks are one of the most popular toys in the world. LEGO, Mega Blocks, and other building blocks are incredibly flexible toys. You can use them to build just about anything you can imagine. You can make cars, rockets, boats, houses, skyscrapers, animals, monsters, and everyone’s favorite - space ships!\n\nSometimes it’s fun to freestyle and build whatever your imagination can dream up, but there are times when it’s helpful to have some direction. For example, how many of you have ever received a Star Wars LEGO kit? Or maybe a Super Heroes kit? Those kits come with specific parts made for a specific purpose. Kids and adults buy those sets because they want to make something specific, like a Millennium Falcon or a Batmobile. You can play around with the kits and build just about anything you can dream up, but if you want to build that Millennium Falcon or that Batmobile, the best way to do it is to follow directions.\n\nFollowing directions is crucial to living for God. God made each one of us with a specific purpose in mind, just like those special LEGO kits. Only you can fulfill that purpose, and the only way you can make it happen is to follow God’s direction.\n\nToday we’re going to look at a passage from the Old Testament. In this story, a man and a woman are both asked to follow directions. The directions given to them seem foolish at first, especially to the woman, but when they follow the directions, we see how God blesses them both.\n\n**Read: 1 KINGS 17:7-24**\n\n**Main Point:**\n\nElijah was a prophet. He was in need of a place to stay and food to eat. God told him to find a poor widow who had almost nothing and ask her for food. Sounds foolish, I know, but it was God’s direction.\n\nThe woman probably thought Elijah was crazy, asking her to sacrifice some of her food for him, but just as Elijah found God’s directions to be good, the woman found them to be good as well. She kept on making food for her, her son, and Elijah, and her food never ran out.\n\nThen tragedy struck. The woman’s son dies, and the woman questions whether or not God really loves her. But God gives Elijah the power to raise the woman’s son from the dead.\n\nHad Elijah not obeyed God, he would have gone without food. Had the woman not obeyed Elijah, she’d have run out of food. She would also have lost her son forever. God blessed the prophet and the woman for following his directions and for showing us the way to live.\n\n**Drive It Home:**\n\nGod has a plan for each and every one of you. You are as unique and special as the pieces created in each custom LEGO set. You were designed to fulfill a plan that God has laid out for you. It’s up to us to follow directions.\n\nWe can start following directions by following the Bible and looking at the example Jesus set for us. God gave us the Bible to teach us who he is and how we should live. Through the Bible we learn to love others. We learn what sin is and how that keeps us apart from God. And we learn how God sent Jesus to pay the price for our sin so we could be forgiven and have eternal life.\n\nWe gain further direction when we pray. When we take our problems, our hopes, and our requests to God, he not only hears us, he answers us. God will open doors that need opening. He will close other doors to keep us from going the wrong way. And most importantly He will forgive us when we call on the name of Jesus and ask for forgiveness for our sin.\n\nGod has big plans for you. Some of you in here may one day be full-time ministers or even mission workers. Some of you in here have a simpler plan. It may be as simple as being a friend to a new kid who moves into the house down the street. Whatever God’s plan is, follow his lead. Big or small, obey God and follow his direction.\n\nGod blessed the prophet who obeyed him. He blessed the woman who obeyed the prophet. He will bless us when we follow his direction and submit our lives to him.\n\n\n\n**Close With A Simple Prayer:**\n\nDear God, Give us direction so that we may live a life that brings glory to your name. In Jesus’ name, Amen"
